We are all about the Internet

Online Security & Privacy tool 'Spotflux' is The Most Useful Startup of the Month for April 2012

A big Hello to our fans ( and those who have just joined us):

As you may have noticed, we normally surface on Posterous around this time of every month. Because that's the time to deliver on our commitment - to announce the Startup of the Month & the logic behind selecting it.

So here it is, for April 2012, our in-house team has zeroed in on the brand new Online Security & Privacy tool, Spotflux, as The Most Useful Startup of the Month for April 2012. So, please, let us all give it up for these guys from New York.

Mostusefulbadge2

I would not say the competition for this important title was intense in April, as seen in the previous months. But the 3 Startups that did make it to the initial shortlist besides Spotflux were WalkMe, a Startup that handholds users through a Website, & Unified Inbox, an all-in-one email and social networking service. Spotflux ultimately took the cake for 2 reasons - it deals with Internet Security and Online privacy, a subject very close to our heart, & something which all the players on the Net must take seriously,  & because the tool is Free. So, there you are.

Spotflux

So, if you are with Spotflux & reading this, take a bow. And if you are anything else, please click here to read up on this Startup.

So long, until next time...

"Unique" Websites creator 'Sidengo' is 'The Most Useful Startup of the Month' for March 2012

Hey guys,

Here in India, the hot months of summer have taken off. With the ides of March coming to an end, it's time once again to announce the Startup that has walked away with our,'The Most Useful Startup of the Month' title.

Mostuseful
(Let the drums roll please....) This coveted title for March 2012 goes to Sidengo, a Websites creator with a twist.

Let me tell you though, March may be a hot season for us here in India, weatherwise, but unfortunately, the tussle between Startups to win this in-house title was not that hot. Most of the Startups featured in March by us in our Startups section fell short of one or the other criteria when it came to getting the title of The Most Useful.....

For those of you who came in late...a quick wrap. Every month, our in-house team shortlists Startups from those featured on our Site throughout the month. From this short list, the panel than names one Startup as that month's Most Useful. Among the list of T&Cs Startups must meet in order to make it even to the shortlist is the fact that they must add some intrinsic value to the life of the average Internet surfer. The other criteria include the point that they should have been launched recently, as recent as possible.

Only Sidengo fulfilled all the criteria to reach the top. So once again, congratulations to the guys behind this Websites creator.

Sidengo

Still in Beta, what grabbed the attention of in-house panelists was the stated purpose of Sidengo - to make it easy & affordable for every one to make a Website, make changes to it whenever the need arises & distribute it across the Web. The service right now is for Free. The thing about Sidengo is that it does not stop at merely creating a Webpage, it helps you to create an entire Site & then takes your Site to where the traffic is.

Click here to read up on Sidengo.

So long

Market2Net: A Ninja marketing/branding service for Startups & Smartphone Apps

On March 13, we completed 2 years of www.whatsnewonthenet.com. To mark this occasion, the Website has launched Market2Net, a service for Startups/Internet Products & Smartphone Apps.

Market2net

M2N is a telescoped Marketing/Branding/PR/Advertising service that will hold hands with Internet Startups in their initial days & go about telling the Online world about them. So, while the Startups owners/managers are busy running the Site & attending to related issues like Servers, design and funding, Market2Net will do all the publicity for the Startup across the Web. The service will make enough noise for people & organisations across the length and breadth of the Internet to sit up and take note. For US $100 dollars for a month, we will do it. This is a personalized service & not a mindless automated one. Each client will be handled by our in-house M2N executive on a one-on-one level.

Market2Net is a Paid, short-term service that Startups including new Smartphone Apps can use to promote themselves Online. It is a combination of Online Promotion, Marketing, Branding and Advertising, all rolled in one.

AIM:

  • Letting the Online community know of the birth of a Startup
  • Allow Startups to stamp their presence on the Internet
  • To build momentum Online in order to engage with Web audiences

M2nlogo

After we have made the concerted effort to announce the birth of your Internet Product to the Online World for 30 days, we hand over your “baby” back to you. You may then take it from where we left the branding/marketing exercise, in any manner you deem fit. There is of course an option to retain us for one more or as many more months as you want, if you have liked our service. But, no compulsions.

WHAT DO YOU GET IN RETURN:

  • Your Startup's saturation in the multi-layered Cyberspace
  • Your Startup's promotion & propogation for 30 days while you go about with the daily yet necessary tasks of keeping your Site Online 24X7, tackling post-birth pangs revolving around technical issues & human resources, pitching for finance with VCs & generally fire-fighting
  • A report of the efforts we have put in to promote+brand+market+advertise your Startup at the end of every week, for 4 weeks, with links, wherever necessary

WHAT YOU WILL NOT GET IN RETURN:

Let’s be practical about this. We are not exactly promising the moon here (would we be charging just $100 then?). Lets just say, we are a bonsai marketing+promotional tool+service for your Startup, & we hold your hands and tell the world about your Internet Product, all for 30 days. We try and scream on top of our (online) voice to let the Web World & leverage on our intricate working of the Internet to let people know of your Startup.

So, your $100 will NOT buy you:

  • SEO writing
  • A spot on Google Search Page 1
  • Google Rank
  • Millions of Facebook or Google+  fans
  • Rocketing traffic
  • Backlinks
  • Logo
  • Letterhead
  • Press conferences
  • Time on TV networks
  • Print Ads
  • Online Ads

Who is Market2Net for?

The following Internet Products:

  • Website
  • Blog
  • Smartphone App
  • Social Networking Site
  • Search Engine
  • Online Gaming Site
  • Web design
  • Online graphics
  • Online service provider

Save & Search, a "unique" Search Engine, is 'The Most Useful Startup of the Month' for Feb 2012

Hey Guys,

We are a few days away from marking the 2nd birthday of our Website. So as I write this, the countdown has already begun on some fancy celebrations we plan to have on THAT day.Everyone's pretty excited.

But more of that later. Anway, getting back to the task at hand, February is almost gone & it's time to announce 'The Most Useful Startup of the Month'. The title goes to - Save & Search.

Savesearch
The thing is that with every passing month, as Whats New On The Net continues to feature more & more Internet Startups that claim to make an Internet Surfer's life, easy, economic and educative, our small in-house team finds it that much more difficult to draw up a shortlist of Startups at month-end, that are really helpful; the competition is so intense. Especially in the last year or so. That makes our task of selecting the final Startup that much more difficult, yet interesting. Our selection team puts the shortlisted Startups through the wringer - our acid test - a set of vital parameters which a Startup must confirm to, if they want this coveted title.

This month, Save & Search passed 'em all. Among the shortlisted candidates were Check This, which essentially is a hosting service where you can host individual Web Pages, something between a Blog & a Website, & Uppidy, a message sharing service.

So, why did Save & Search go past the post?

Mostusefulbadge2

Our team says its "uniqueness grabbed 'em. There are lots & lots of Search Engines out there but of course, Google continues to be the Big Boss. Save & Search, though, allows users to not only Search the Net but also Save their Search for continuity. Which means, the next time around, you do not really have to put in the same effort if you wanna continue your Search. So, it's new, it's efficient, it's economical (free), it does not require registration even. Save & Search may be in Beta still, but our team sees a future in it if the guys out there do get their act right.

So, congratulations to the guys running Save & Search, & of course, congratulations to Check This & Uppidy. Keep 'em coming, guys.

You may click here to read up on Save & Search.

So long, my friends

'The Most Useful Startup of the Month' for Jan 2012 is OverApps

The end of a month is always an exciting time for us at Whats New On The Net. It's the time for us to zero in on a Startup which will confirm to the coveted title of The Most Useful Startup of the Month.

Mostusefulbadge2

For January 2012, it is OverApps, a Browser add-on that blocks Online advertisement on any Website or Blog, & replaces it with Applications. To be frank, January has been a tough month where selection for this title is concerned. In the race were Content Sharing Site Social Folders, Social Site Engag.io, visual Search Engine Oolone & Q&A Site Beepl.

Overapps

So, why did we rest on OverApps? Our in-house selection team was quite taken up by this Online advertisement blocking software. Not only does it do that but it takes matters ahead by replacing advertisements with Apps, so that a visitor to a Site is not bored but can become active, even as he is on that particular Site. Thus, the Site owner may find his visitors' staying power enhanced. Also, we have yet to come across any other software that claims to do what OverApps is doing, so 1 point was given for originality of thought.

We must say that The Most Useful Startup....has really caught the fancy of many of our Site's visitors & Internet Startups. We are told that it is something that this community looks forward to, every month. I would like to use this opportunity to thank all our supporters & fans who have made this a success.

So, keep reading www.whatsnewonthenet.com And congratulations to the guys running OverApps. Also, thanks for opening the innings for 2012. They deserve a round of applause. And so do the others who made it to the shortlist.

Click here if you wanna read up on what OverApps is all about.

Bye Bye

The Most Useful Startups of 2011

The selection is done internally by our staff. To qualify for this coveted title, a Startup needs to meet some basic criteria:

email branding service 'BrandMyMail' is our 'The Most Useful Startup of the Month' for Dec 2011

Hi,

We are in the last month of 2011 & before the sun sets on the last day of the last month, here's an announcement - email branding Startup, 'BrandMyMail' has been selected as  'The Most Useful Startup of the Month' for December 2011 by www.whatsnewonthenet.com. Clap, clap.....cheers.

Unlike our previous months, the competition was not so hot this month (maybe because winter is here? Sorry, could not resist that PJ). Anyway, BrandMyMail, for those of you who missed our write-up on this Startup, allows user to put their personal touch to the emails they send out.

This is a Free service that allows you to add pizzaz to your email by allowing you to customize it by adding all your plugins, inserting your logo or signature, or even your own photos.

The thing about BrandMyMail is that it is simple to set up & simple to use, just the way we like it here at Whats New On The Net.

You can register through Gmail & that according to us is a slight drawback. But the guys at this Startup promise that other types of email providers will be included soon. BrandMyMail has several templates to choose from, along with facilities to include your photographs, e-signatures, logos & so on. Once you have decided & set your Page design, you can preview it & if you like what you see, save the settings.

Brandmymail

So, as we wish 2011 adieu, & pray for a better 2012, do read up on BrandMyMail by clicking here

Best Wishes

Online Privacy Manager 'MelonCard' is our 'The Most Useful Startup of the Month' for Nov 2011

Hi,

November has been kinda dull month so far as the Web World is concerned. Not much 'newsy' stuff happening ( I guess it must be because of the holiday season), not many interesting Internet Startups being born. But we at www.whatsnewonthenet.com continued to report on the daily developments in the world of the Internet & Smartphone Apps without break.

Now that November is almost dead, it's time for our monthly ritual - to announce the Startup that has walked away with The Most Useful Startup of the Month vote.

Mostusefulbadge4

That vote, ladies & gentlemen, goes to Online privacy manager, MelonCard. So, what does this Startup service do? For those of you who missed reading up on it earlier, MelonCard claims to completely erase all your personal data floating around Online (if you so wish). Forever! Well, atleast that's what these chaps claim. Poof, gone. All info about you - credit card details, date of birth record, phone numbers, your political views - everything that still lingers in the dark corners of the Web much after you thought you had `deleted' them, or perhaps forgotten about it, rubbed out. The service is Free unless you opt for a premium one.

Melon2

Ironically, for us, this month's race for 'The Most.....' was between 2 Startups - one, MelonCard & the other, egoArchive, a service that is diametrically opposite to the former. egoArchive tracks & records every move of yours on the Internet (again if you so choose).  So you see - one Startup that claims to protect your Online privacy, the other, that records it, of course, not to be exposed to the entire web community but only for your personal record, a personal archiving process.

It was an even match between these 2. MelonCard came out tops only because Online privacy, we feel, is a huge issue, & anyone working towards protecting it deserves to be hailed. So, once again, give it up for MelonCard, lets hear some claps guys.

You may catch up with MelonCard by clicking here

'PowerInbox', the Startup that adds Applications to your email, is 'The Most Useful Startup of the Month' for Oct 2011

Hey again,

Yup, the end of the month signals the time for us to announce 'The Most Useful Startup of the Month'.

This time, we have selected PowerInbox, a Startup that allows you to add Applications to your email. Although we featured less number of Startups in October as compared to some of the previous months, we had a tough time selecting 'The Most Useful Startup'.

Mostusefulbadge2

When we started the exercise, it was an intense run between PowerInBox on the one hand & the brand new Social Networking Site, Chime.in, the Password Manager, Clipperz & the Cloud Storage system, SnapCrowd, on the other. At the end, we were down to 2 Startups - PowerInBox & Chime.in. In fact, it was almost like a photo-finish between the duo. One among us did suggest that we announce a tie-up between the 2...but we believe, tie-ups are no fun. There has to be 1 winner & so the oak leaves went to PowerInBox.

Before I explain some of the reasons why, allow me to give you a brief download on what PowerInbox is all about. This Startup went 'Live' this August. It allows email users to run Apps from inside their emails, thus adding juice to the otherwise staid email.

Let me give you an example on what PowerInbox does: If you receive a notification in your email from Social Site Google+, normally, you would have to log out of your email & then log into Google+ to check it out & do whatever you want to do with that notification. No longer so. If you have PowerInbox, you can tackle that notification from inside your email itself. There are a lot of other features that this Startup brings to the table, & if you wanna catch all of those, click on http://whatsnewonthenet.com/Most-Useful-Startup-%28Oct-2011%29-PowerInbox.php

Powerinbox

Now, why was PowerInbox our final choice? Because The Most Useful Startup of the Month title is reserved for those Startups that add value to your Online Life. They have to make your Online Life better than what it is. Check out the guidelines here http://whatsnewonthenet.com/The-6-Most-Useful-Startups-Jan-Aug-2010.php

And, Startups have not only to be path-breaking but also simple. No point in confusing Netizens. PowerInbox does all that; it met all our stipulated guidelines. Chime.in, a noteworthy runner-up let me say, lost to PowerInbox only because we felt it's an idea that's already out there - Social Networking. That's the one & perhaps the only reason why it lost by a whisker to PowerInboxYou can catch up PowerInbox by clicking here.

So long friends, until next time.

'Click.to' is 'The Most Useful Startup of the Month' for Sept 2011

Hi,

It is surprising (a pleasant coincidence) that the previous month's & this month's (Sept 2011) 'The Most Useful Startup of the Month' Websites end in the word, 'To'. In August, it was 'Comment To', while in September, we have zeroed in on 'Click. to'. Some applause for 'Click. to', everyone?

As compared to the other Startups featured on our Website in Sept, this German Startup got our final nod because it came the closest to meeting all our criteria for  being a useful Startup. Click.to is an App, which is not very easily to explain in one sentence, but let me describe it in this way - it drastically reduces the number of clicks that an average Netizen clicks in his daily Internet surfing.

Clickto Logo
To explain further, I ask you a question - How do you copy stuff from the Net? Most of you mark & copy text from one location & then paste the text to the location you want. That could be the Google or any other Search Engine Search task bar, maybe to your email....& so on & so forth. Uplaoding of images, too, is cumbersome.

Essentially, this is where Click.to comes in. Once you download & install this App (works for Windows for now), you can use it to copy and paste much faster. Works across text, images, videos & any other format of document - all can be copied with one click.

Click.to is great when one needs to transfer photographs for sharing across Flickr or Facebook or other Social sites. Normally, you would come home from say a birthday party or a college farewell & are in a hurry to share some of 'em with friends. You will now have to do is download them first, then select the ones you want to be uploaded to Facebook.....etc etc.  Click.to approaches this from the other side: mark & select the pictures in the Windows Explorer browser, then click.to Facebook or Flickr or any other image-processing or picture-hosting service of your choice.

There are loads of things that Click.to takes care of while you are surfing so we leave you with this link http://www.whatsnewonthenet.com/Most-Useful-Startup-September-2011.php to check it out for yourself.

Bye Bye
